4/30 (Wed.) Movie Adaptation (Host: Grace Yang)
dear YOYOs,
I am hosting 4/30 topic about movie adaptation. Hope everyone will like it.
Movie adaptation is the transfer of a written work into a feature film. Adaptation introduces complications in audience perception and aesthetics. The most common form of film adaptation is the use of a novel as the basis of a film, but film adaptation includes the use of autobiography, comic book, plays, and even other films.
Some books have been adapted into films, which later allow the books to become better known or even best sellers. Take Lust, Caution for an example. It was directed by Taiwanese director Ang Lee, based on the short story published in 1979 by Chinese author Eileen Chang. The film adaptation and the story are based on events that took place during the Japanese occupation of Shanghai. Ang Lee successfully used explicit sex scenes to reflect the controversy, complexity, and transformation from both characters’ heart. The Death Note, another successful film adapted from Japanese comics series, is mainly centered on a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim's name into the notebook. The plot follows his attempt to create and lead a world cleansed of evil using the notebook, and the complex conflict between him and those assailing him that results.
