The Nationwide activity -- Losing Weight

The Nationwide activity -- Losing Weight

文章HelenWu 發表於 週二 12月 27, 2005 10:57 am

Hello everyone. This is Helen. It’s my first time to be the host. Hopefully, the topic I pick will gain your interests and bring you a happy Wednesday night.

“Losing weight to become as skinny as you can” has become a nationwide activity everywhere in the world. People, especially for younger generation, are trying their best, using any kind of possible method to make them look slimmer and smaller, no mater if the method will harm their health or not. I found that those superstars are part of the reasons for bringing people the “become a skinny bone” idea, since they are always look extremely attractive on TV or movies, and it looks like they can always fit in any dress like size 4 or 6. Especially after being overstated advertising, these stars seem like they can always rapidly drop their weights and back to their shapes in the shortest period of time when necessary. These wrong examples have enormously effect people’s thoughts regarding keeping fit and losing weights.

Obesity does become a serious problem in this century, and keeping your weight or lowering down your weight to your standard level is everybody’s responsibility for their own health. However, if you don’t have the correct concepts and cannot balance losing weight and keeping health, then you might get opposite result, and most importantly, lose your health.

Here is some news for your reference before our discussion:
1. http://edition.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/diet ... index.html
2. http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/heal ... _diet.html
3. http://news.sawf.org/Entertainment/5034.aspx
4. http://www.commonvoice.com/article.asp?colid=3541

Session I:

1. Does the thought of “losing weight” come up in your mind frequently? If not, do you have any friend or family member around you who does? How do you/they make “losing weight” involve in your/their everyday life (for example: counting calories while eating, pay attention to any related news or advertisement, etc. )?

2. Do you think which one is more important? “Losing weight” or “keeping in good shape”. Do you think most people are watching their WEIGHT or watching their SHAPE?

3. Have you ever personally tried any SPECIAL and UNIQUE tips for losing weight? Or have you ever heard any WEIRD tip? Where are these tips from? Are these tips really useful?

Session II:

1. Do you think there is no healthy way to reduce weight within a short period of time?

2. Do you think those superstars do bring wrong concepts of “losing weight” or bring the wrong idea of “become as skinny as you can” for the younger generations? Why?

3. Which superstars (think about both local and international stars) do you think are the good models for taking care of both shape and health well at the same time? In other word, which superstars bring people healthy concept? But they are not really the skinny type.

PS: I will post more links and vocabularies before the end of today.

S Ⅰ
1. I've lost again, again and again. Every time I lost 2-3 kgs, I ate again to celebrate. 2 week ago I ran 3.6~3.8 km twice per day for over 5 days but a god-damn stone hurt my ankle :( Shit ! I lose 1 kg that week without diet.
2. Of course good shpe. Even though my weight didn't lose too much, my BSI fell from 33% to 30%. That means I am more muscular than I was.
3. Diet food. Losing weight from 75 kg to 64 kg in 2 and a half months.

SⅡ
1. Actually, I knew a retired vice chief of the criminal police, one ofr my Taijiquan master's disciples, lost about 10 kg within 2 months. He practiced for over 6 hours per day. I wonder I can do the same if I stop working for 2 months.
2. and 3. I'll answer in gathering.

In fact, I learned that counting calories of food is not adequate. Digesting effeciency is much more thatn calorie. Take an example. digesting effeciency of peanut powder is much more than raw peanuts. That means that if you eat peanut powder, you're gain more calorie in your body than eating the same weigth of raw peanuts. Eating food more naturally, much more healthier you get.

Ideally, if you want to lose weight, you should be able to eat anything you want, when ever you want and as much as you want but at the same time, just make sure that your beverages have the word "Diet" on printed on them. Like Diet Coke or Diet pepsi. I think there is a good reason for the word to be there.

This is the very craziest thing I've heard aboult losing weight. Yesterday, I found a interesting story: a fat man tried to lose his weight by walking across US on 10/04/2005, from San Diego to NYC, approximately* 2814 miles (4500km). He is now in the central of US. And he reduced 30 kg, from 150 to 119. Here is his blog.
Wow! 4500 km! The distance from Keelung to Kaohsiung is just 372 km...So big US is. Austin suggested me to make a try to walk acoss TW. I would consider it very seriously. 8)
